Port Blair, Oct. 26: The Indian Coast Guard, District Headquarters-14 conducted a Pollution Response Seminar and Mock Drill from 25 to 26 Oct 23, at Port Blair. The Training and Workshop was in sync with the National Oil Spill Disaster Contingency Plan (NOSDCP) for which Indian Coast Guard is Competent National Authority for coordinating marine oil pollution response. Dy Inspector General Pradeep B Mandal, TM, District Commander No. 14 (South & Little Andaman) chaired the seminar and highlighted the importance of preparedness by all stakeholders including A&N Administration, Disaster Management Board, Port Management Board, Forest Dept., IOCL, PMF, etc.

Port Blair, Oct. 26: Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, A&N Islands has mourned the passing of Shri Nandji Singh, retired Forest Ranger, aged 89.

After retirement Shri. Nandji Singh served as Block President of Ferrargunj area and he was a senior Congress leader.

Port Blair, Oct. 26: The Directorate of Social Welfare organized a series of awareness camp on the various provisions of POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act under ICDS (Integrated Child Development Services) Projects at Port Blair (Urban), Ferrargunj, Rangat, Diglipur and Car Nicobar. More than 36 camps were organized in the month of September, 2023 to educate children, parents, teachers, and the community at large about the importance of safeguarding children from sexual offences. The POCSO Act is an Indian law that addresses sexual offences against children. Such awareness programs are critical to inform people about the Act's provisions, the rights of children, and the steps that can be taken to prevent and respond to child sexual abuse.

Port Blair, Oct. 26: In order to provide effective governance at the grassroot level and to ensure a responsive and people friendly Administration, the Vigilance Department / Anti-Corruption Unit will be observing Vigilance Awareness Week -2023 from Oct. 30 to Nov.5, 2023. Good Governance is about the process for making good decision and their effective implementation. The main characteristics of good governance are transparency, accountability following rule of law, being inclusive, effective and efficient good governance and preventive vigilance share characteristics and therefore, ‘Say no to Corruption; Commit to the Nation’. Application of ‘Corruption free India for a Developed Nation’ would not only result in removing the negative connotations attached with vigilance work, but would also contribute positively towards the overall functioning of the Administration leading to Corruption Free Society.

Port Blair, Oct. 26: Under National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP), the 3rd round of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccination was successfully completed at Veterinary Dispensary (VD), Manglutan. Three Panchayats namely Guptapara, Humfrygunj and Wandoor were covered under the jurisdiction of VD, Manglutan. A cumulative total of 1452 cattle belonging to 317 farmers were vaccinated under the programme and from among the lot, 601 cattle were newly tagged.
